You’ve probably heard this African proverb before, but what does it mean exactly?
Consider Kelly French and her journey which led her to join a real estate team.
Kelly’s previous job in the corporate world required a lot of travel and way too much time away from her family. She and her husband, Jason, have three amazing children, two of whom have special needs, and to say that she has a busy schedule is an understatement.
So, in 2015, Kelly got her real estate license, hoping that becoming a realtor would allow her to earn the money her family needed, yet offer the flexibility to spend more time with them.
Early in her real estate career, Kelly set a goal for herself: to do $10 Million a year in business.
It was a target that she knew would pose numerous challenges and managing them all with competency and precision would take years of experience. In 2019, Kelly reached her goal, but she was spending a lot of money on marketing, and she was still working very long hours.
Kelly found, like most successful agents, there just weren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done on her own.
Kelly recognized that if she was going to continue to produce at that high level and still provide great service to her customers without breaking her promises to her family, something had to change. She made a few attempts at hiring an assistant to help her leverage her time, but Kelly found it challenging to find the right person.
Time to Join a Real Estate Team
That’s when she began considering the team model, and reached out to our real estate team, the Expert Advisors Group, to see what joining us would look like.
We had an honest conversation with Kelly about what she was looking for, and how we could partner, especially in helping with marketing and transaction coordination.
When she asked us, “If you take the transaction coordinating and marketing off my plate, what will I do all day?” we laughed and told her, “You’ll be talking to more customers.”
Kelly loved that answer. She was enthusiastic about the opportunity to devote more time to her customers instead of paperwork. And, when Kelly shared that she was tired of doing everything alone, and wanted to become part of something bigger than herself, we told her about our team’s core values and our culture of support and camaraderie.
A Plan for Success
Kelly joined our team in March 2020. With the help of our Success Team – that’s what we call our amazing people who run everything in the background and make all of us look good – we helped Kelly work out the logistics of her transition.
We sat down together to discuss how to best leverage her skills, and to map out a strategy for which neighborhoods we should market to, based on turnover rate and existing competition.
With our support, Kelly executed on the plan, and it wasn’t long before she started seeing extraordinary results.
In July 2020, Kelly had 8 closings and brought home – after her team split – $23,115.19.
In August 2020, she had 6 closings and brought home $13,171.07.
In September, it was 8 closings with take-home of $19,337.75.
And already, for October, Kelly has 7 closings on the books.
How does that compare to other agents?
Well, the average real estate agent in the U.S. sells 6 homes/year, so selling 6+ in one month is very impressive. And, although many agents accomplish that volume from time-to-time, very few can do it consistently, month after month, the way that Kelly does. What she is accomplishing as a member of our group is pretty amazing. Her decision to join a real estate team has made all of the difference in her life, personally and professionally.
The Future is Bright
We continue to work closely with Kelly to provide her the support she needs to continue helping even more families, while also enjoying a life outside of work. We think it’s a great fit, and Kelly agrees:
“With the team system in place, I can still continue to grow at the pace I had been growing, but now I have the leverage of a big team,” she says. “Everyone is so welcoming and everyone wants to make it a win-win….”
As one of my mentors, Gary Keller, says, “No one succeeds alone.” And that’s true. Kelly’s success as a member of our group is an example of how much further people can go when they work together.
